virginia woolf and vita sackville-west in the basement of the hogarth press

the two of them would meet here when vita would come to london. a pre-visit before the actual visit. they would also send private letters inside ones that might be read by others. since the hogarth press was in this basement, I imagined vita bringing a manuscript, a ruse that, at this moment, is no longer necessary, and so, down to the business at hand.

  2. I’m guessing the manuscript that Virginia brings could be that of her book Orlando as the protagonist is based on Vita.

  3. Illuminating. The scene, because it returns me to the reality, leaves me with a sense of shock, awe… and yet a deeper empathy and compassion for the Virginia Woolf with whom I abide in her observation of character.
